Small bathroom in dark colours: tips from the designer

Small, dark bathrooms are often a challenge to furnish, but proper planning and creative design can help turn this space into a cosy place that captures your imagination and meets your needs. Despite the limited space and lack of natural light, there are many ways to make your dark bathroom stylish and functional.

Ideas to help you create a cosy bathroom

1. Make the best use of lighting

Lighting plays a crucial role in creating the atmosphere in a bathroom. Given that you are choosing dark colours, you should prioritise natural light whenever it is available. Use transparent windows or light-transmitting materials for doors and partitions to allow as much natural light as possible.
For artificial lighting, choose warm, subdued light that accentuates the style of your bathroom. Use spotlights to highlight individual details and create dramatic shadows.

2. Thin lines and graphic elements

Designs in dark colours can look heavy and cluttered, so you should avoid large, thick lines. Instead, use thin lines and graphic elements to make the space look lighter and more elegant. For example, you can use graphic tile mosaics or discreet decorative elements on the walls.

3. Colour accents

Even in a dark bathroom, you can use bright colours as accents. For example, choose one or more brightly coloured accent elements such as a mirror frame, cabinet handles, a flower pot or textile accessories. These colourful touches will refresh and enrich the overall look of the room.

4. Use of built-in cabinets and shelves

To save space, use built-in cabinets or shelves. They will not only provide additional storage space, but also give a stylish, organised look to the bathroom. Choose doors with mirrors to increase the space visually and provide additional light.

5. Maintaining order

It is especially important to keep things tidy in a small bathroom. Avoid overloading with decorative elements or unnecessary items. Use a functional and minimalist approach to design to create the effect of space and cleanliness.

6. Choose tiles carefully

Tiles affect the overall style and atmosphere of the bathroom. For example, you can choose tiles with a matte or semi-matte texture to avoid excessive shine and glare that can make the room look smaller.

7. Use of mirrors and glass surfaces

Mirrors are always a universal solution for small bathrooms, as they are a great tool for creating the illusion of more space and reflecting light.

In general, the arrangement of a small dark bathroom is a fascinating creative process that requires attention to detail and ingenuity. Create accents, use mirrors and place lighting wisely – and your bathroom will become a place that will surprise you and delight you with its atmosphere!
