How to create the perfect room for two children: zoning secrets from our design studio

Designing a children’s room for two children is a task that requires careful planning and creativity. Especially when it comes to teenagers who value their personal space, but at the same time need to coexist in one room. In our project for two sisters, we solved this problem by applying modern approaches to zoning.

Why is zoning important for a children’s room?

A children’s room has many functions: it is a place for sleeping, studying, relaxing and storing things. For two children, especially teenagers, it is important to consider that each child needs their own personal space. Zoning allows you to:

• ensure privacy for each room occupant;
• create comfortable conditions for studying and relaxing;
• avoid conflicts related to the sharing of space;
• make the room functional and comfortable for living.

How we implemented zoning

For this project, we used a decorative partition that became a key element of zoning. Its design has a dual function:

• The open part creates the effect of lightness and allows you to visually unite the room space. This approach adds a sense of harmony and openness to the room.
• Closed part: provides privacy by turning the partition into a solid wall between the zones. This is especially important for teenagers who need personal space.

Thus, the partition not only divides the room, but also gives it a stylish look, combining functionality with aesthetics.

Functional zones of the room

In our project, each of the zones was carefully designed to meet the basic needs of teenagers.

– Sleeping area

Each sister has her own bed, which is arranged to provide maximum comfort and cosiness. The beds are decorated in calm colours with high-quality textiles, creating an atmosphere of relaxation.

– Work area

For studying, we have provided separate workstations near the window, which have

a desk with a sufficient work surface;
ergonomic chairs;
shelves for books, stationery and other necessary items.

Proper lighting is one of the key points. Workplaces receive enough natural light and are additionally equipped with table lamps for evening work.

– Storage area

Storage is an important aspect of any children’s room. In this project, we have provided

a spacious wardrobe for each child;
shelves for books and decor;
hidden storage systems under the beds for seasonal items or toys.

This solution helps to keep the room tidy and provides enough space for storing personal belongings.

Colour zoning

In addition to physical separation, we used colour zoning to help create the individuality of each zone.

The main colours of the room are neutral shades of beige, white and light grey. They create a calm base for the interior.
Each zone has its own accents, chosen according to the sisters’ preferences. For example, different colour schemes were used in textiles, décor and even small furniture details to emphasise the personal style of each of them.

Colour accents help not only to zone the space, but also to make the interior lively and dynamic.

How to make a room cosy

In addition to functionality, it is important to create an atmosphere of comfort and harmony. In this project, we used:

Soft lighting: pendant lamps, table lamps and LED lighting add warmth to the room.
Textiles: curtains, decorative pillows and bedspreads are made of high-quality materials that are pleasant to the touch and visually complement the interior.
Natural materials: wood in furniture and decorative elements adds warmth and naturalness to the room.
