TV or projector in the interior: what to choose?
A modern interior is not only about beauty, but also about functionality, comfort and technology. When it comes to arranging a zone for watching films, TV shows or games, the question often arises: what is better to fit into the space – a TV or a projector? Both options have their advantages and limitations, so the choice depends not only on the technical characteristics, but also on the architecture of the room, lifestyle, and design vision.
TV: classics in a new format
The TV remains the most common choice in apartments and houses. Its main advantage is ease of use and stable image quality regardless of the lighting in the room.
Advantages of a TV:
- High brightness and contrast, which allows you to watch comfortably even during the day.
- A wide range of models with different diagonals – from compact to huge 85″ + screens.
- Smart TVs with built-in apps: Netflix, YouTube, AppleTV, etc.
- Minimum installation requirements: a socket and a bracket or cabinet are enough.
Where the TV will be appropriate:
- In bright rooms with panoramic windows.
- In apartments with limited space where there is no room for a projector screen.
- In studio kitchens – as a background entertainment area while cooking.
At the same time, it should be borne in mind that a TV is always a visually active element of the interior. Even ultra-thin models remain a dark spot on the wall when switched off. In design projects, this is solved with the help of

- combining with decorative panels or shelves;
- choosing models with an “art frame” mode that display paintings or photos.
Projector: a cinema in your home
Projectors create an atmosphere, scale and immersive effect. They are ideal for those who dream of a home cinema, appreciate minimalism, and do not want to see a black screen on the wall every day.
Advantages of the projector:
- The ability to create a huge screen – 100 inches or more.
- The compactness of the device itself: the projector can be discreet or hidden in the ceiling/wardrobe.
- No screen when turned off – the wall remains clean or decorated instead.
- An atmosphere similar to watching in a real cinema.
It is advisable to use a projector:
- In dark or darkened rooms – best in the evening or with heavy curtains.
- In large living rooms or separate rooms specially equipped for a cinema area.
- Wherever you want maximum lightness in the interior without putting a strain on the walls.
However, the projector also has its own nuances:
- The need for high-quality dimming for a full-fledged picture.
- The need for a screen or a perfectly flat white wall.
- Additional sound planning – built-in speakers are often not enough.
- Some models require a distance to the screen, although there are options with short-focus optics that can be placed close to the wall.
Design approach: how we integrate technology
In our interior design studio, we always start from the client’s lifestyle. For families who regularly watch TV programmes during the day, a TV will be more practical. For aesthetes who dream of movie nights in the twilight, a projector will be the perfect solution.
We take into account:
- Scenarios of space use (whether it’s daily news viewing or evening film viewing).
- The geometry of the room – the location of windows, the presence of niches, the length of passage areas.
- Interior style – in minimalist spaces, the projector blends in better with the background.
- Budget – top-of-the-line TVs can be more expensive than a set with a projector, screen, and audio.
Both a TV and a projector can fit perfectly into a modern interior, provided they are thought out as part of a design project. The key is not in the technology itself, but in the context of its use. We help to ensure that technology does not disturb the harmony of the space, but becomes its natural extension.
If you’re faced with a choice, don’t just choose at random. Ask yourself: when, how and why do you watch content? And we will help you integrate the technology into the interior so that you don’t want to change anything.
More about the project
The space dictated the rhythm – the sloping roof, tall windows, and soft natural light set the mood even before the design began.
The customers wanted an interior in neutral, warm colours with natural textures: wood, wicker decor and textiles with ethnic accents. We chose a modern boho adaptation, complementing it with thoughtful stage lighting. The focus is on the projector instead of the TV, so every detail works for comfort and atmosphere.
